In honor of labor day, and all the american workers who made it possible for me to have the day off today, here’s Butch.  He’s a construction robot, and he’s taking his lunchbreak.

I’ve always wondered about the old city workers who could just perch themselves up high on girders and eat their lunch without throwing up…  This is why we should have robots to do these things…

So, surprisingly enough, this robot idea came from watching the new Scott Pilgrim movie.  It really juiced me up for fighting, and then one thing led to another, and luchadore robot.  I can’t explain it any better than that…

Sorry for missing a post last week.  It’s been a very busy time getting ready for Baltimore Comic Con.  Oh…did I not mention that I’m going to be at Baltimore Comic Con with friend and artist Brad Samuelson, of As The Grass Grows fame?  No?  Well… now you know!  We will be there with plenty of good stuff.  Brad’s got books and buttons and things from his comic, and I’ll be there selling 2 exclusive comic-con-only prints.  Be sure to check it out!

Anyway… on to this week’s robot.

Been playing a lot of Starcraft 2 this past week.  I was a HUGE fan of the original game, and couldn’t help myself when the new one was released.  I was always drawn to the Protoss, with their crazy alien technology and benevolence.  The new units in the game are awesome, and I’m specifically in love with the new protoss unit, the Colossus.  It’s very “War of The Worlds” feeling, and is definitely the most alien feeling of all of their units.

It has been abnormally hot in the northeast this past month.  Temps in the hundreds, with humidity thick enough to need a scuba mask.  This past weekend was a scorcher, and got me thinking.  If air conditioners were sentient, would they feel heat?

Let me tell you, being on vacation for a week does not give one the motivation to do an illustration…

It does, on the other hand, give me an idea for an illustration.  So, begrudgingly, I sat down to turn this one out.  I just recently returned from a week long stint in Aruba, and the many (MANY) beach bars we frequented sparked this little guy.  Why not have an automated process, especially for those of us who hit up the all-inclusive resorts, and order a steady supply of pina coladas.

Yesterday we celebrated the independence of our nation.  What better way to celebrate that independence than by firing rockets off into the air?  The only way I can think to make it better is to make it robot controlled.  Then again, that’s my way to make everything better.

This little guy seems to be having lots of fun though, blasting off all those rockets.  He’s gotta be on to something…

Been listening to a lot of old school hip hop lately.  A strange kick hit me at work, and it’s pretty much all that plays while I’m cranking out the “phat designz”, so to speak.  This is what a break dancing robot would look like.  Music source and dancer all in one.  More efficient.  Also, I think boombox sales would fly through the roof if they came with the built in ability to dance.

Quick one this week.  I spent the weekend in Chicago, and one of the most memorable parts was going to a famous pizzeria where I had probably the best pizza I’ve ever eaten.  Chicago deep dish is now a new craving of mine.

Anyways, this is what I pictured was in the back, churning out pizzas.  No man could make pizza this good.
